Carla Montano

I came into engineering through a self-taught, project-first path, and I'm now pursuing a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) to formalize it academically. My first career was teaching (Spanish and intro computer science at Freedom Prep Schools in Memphis), which is where the habit of explaining technical things clearly, to people who didn't ask for jargon, comes from.

From there: three-plus years as a software engineer at Green Mountain, acting as Scrum Master and team lead on enterprise tools; ongoing 1-on-1 mentorship for full-stack bootcamp students at Parsity; and founding MontanoSystems (formerly In Motion Web Solutions LLC), a studio delivering web and systems work for small businesses and nonprofits.

I work across the stack (React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node, C#, SQL) and across the lifecycle of a product, not just the code. That includes scoping, sprint planning, code review, and the unglamorous parts: documentation, testing, and being the person who actually ships.

I'm bilingual (English/Spanish) and have spent most of my career working with distributed, cross-functional teams, collaborating across engineering, product, and marketing during rebrands and migrations, and communicating technical tradeoffs to people who aren't engineers.

I split my time between client and product work at MontanoSystems, building LigaFam (a live-scoring app for amateur baseball leagues) and Acadetech (a bilingual education venture), and looking for a full-time, contract, or product/PM role where I can bring that same range.
